Samsung Galaxy A55 5G

The design is a little outdated, but strong performance and a keen price make Samsung’s mid-range handset more appealing than ever.

The Galaxy A55 is Samsung's most premium-looking A phone yet, with an aluminum frame and glass back, along with a 6.6-inch 120Hz OLED screen. Powering the phone is the Exynos 1480, a 4nm chip that's surprisingly capable.

The Galaxy A55 is a good phone, but not at this price. We suspect other cheaper or similarly priced devices from Samsung itself will cannibalize Galaxy A55 sales unless its price drops significantly in the coming months. Then, it would be a rather easy recommendation.

While it is not a bad phone by any means, the Galaxy A55 does fall off in the performance department when compared to the OnePlus 12R and the Vivo V30 Pro, which more or less cost the same. So if you are a heavy user or want a gaming phone, the Galaxy A55 might not be for you.

Thanks to a few key under-the-hood improvements, this year's Galaxy A55 is easier to recommend for those who like everything about Samsung's flagship phones bar the price.

The Galaxy A55 is a good mid-range phone with a couple of standout features that make it a little different to everything else in the market right now. If you want the security of long-term operating system upgrades and need a phone with eSIM capabilities, it’s a good option.
